How did your legal career begin?
I did a law degree at the University of Southampton then my LPC the College of Law Guildford. Once I completed my LPC I joined THP Solicitors as a legal assistant and the following year transferred onto their training programme.
What was training at THP Solicitors like?
The training is very varied and hands-on. You are encouraged to deal with clients early on which is really the best way to learn. There is good oversight and direction from the Partners but they will expect you to embrace the challenges and learn from your experiences.
Describe what you enjoy about your work
I love helping people reach their goals and enjoy overcoming technical issues to find a solution. I am also a very organised person and like setting deadlines and meeting them, which is crucial in my role.
How would you describe the culture at THP?
Clients come first. Nothing conflicts with that. No matter what the circumstances. You need to be there to set client expectations, keep them updated on progress, help them overcome hurdles, and celebrate successes.
Any advice for someone considering a career in the law?
There’s a reason it takes seven years to become a lawyer. You have to develop your legal knowledge and demonstrate resilience. But you also have to understand that every case revolves around a person and empathise with their situation. The human element is as key as the technical one.
