A Quick History of the Firm
The Head Partnership was established in 1991 by Malcolm Head, Jill Dean and David Watson. Originally the firm operated from one office in Lower Earley but as it grew, new offices were opened in Henley to meet demand and provide additional resources for staff and clients.
The Head Partnership was first awarded the Lexcel Practice Management accreditation by The Law Society in 2006 and has passed Lexcel’s rigorous annual assessment ever since. Lexcel is an internationally recognised legal practice quality mark, only given to solicitors who meet the highest management and client care standards. It was created to offer clients of law firms a clear and distinctive assurance of quality.
In 2010, Jill Dean, Malcolm Head and Mo Fox were bought out by the remaining partners and Malcolm Head moved to a consultancy role. In 2020, The Head Partnership rebranded and began using the trading name of THP Solicitors, after the firm undertook a strategic review of the market and the attributes its clients valued. In 2024, like many firms in the legal sector, the firm transitioned from a limited liability partnership to a limited company to give it more flexibility for the growth and stability of the firm.
As THP Solicitors has developed it has been important to all involved that the firm retained its core values, but at the same time, fostered an identity that reflected its current attributes and capabilities. Currently, THP Solicitors Ltd has approximately 50 staff spread across its offices in Reading and Henley, providing a mix of legal services for individuals and businesses including Residential Property Conveyancing, Commercial Property, Divorce & Family, Wills, Trusts and Estates, Corporate & Commercial, Dispute Resolution and Employment Law.

In the community
The staff at THP Solicitors enjoy supporting charities by helping to raise much needed funds. For example, when local local charity Daisy’s Dream (who provide support for bereaved children) became our new neighbours, our staff arranged sweepstakes to bake sales in the weeks that followed and raised over £500. And when a member of staff was affected by cancer, we raised hundreds of pounds on Wear ‘It Pink Day’, to raise funds for Breast Cancer Now, a charity that supports those with breast cancer and their familes.

THP are keen to support local good causes and the firm encourages all members of the team to take part in community initiatives by giving each member of staff an extra day off work to volunteer. It’s a great way to spend time with colleagues whilst helping support local good causes. Our team have rolled up their sleeves to help numerous local charities including SAFE Horses, Headway, The Cowshed and the River & Rowing Museum.

We want to support the communities around us and encourage our staff to get involved in local appeals. Christmas is always a busy time for charities, and each year our staff generously buy, wrap, and distribute presents to those in need locally.
In 2025, we supported the Royal Berks Charity’s Christmas Gift Appeal by donating presents, wrapping them, and then personally giving them to patients on the wards at Royal Berkshire Hospital. Our staff also supported The Cowshed Charity Christmas Project by giving gifts and wrapping presents, which were distributed to 3000 local children.

THP Solicitors takes part in the Reading Legal Walk each year where teams from local law firms do a sponsored ‘after work’ 10km walk to raise money for local legal advice charities such as Reading Citizens Advice Bureau, Reading Commincare and FLAG DV.

As part of our mission to support the local creative arts, THP Solicitors has sponsored many art, music, theatre and literature initiatives over the years.
We have supported Henley Festival for 10 consecutive years. Jo Bausor, CEO of Henley Festival said, “We have a long history with THP Solicitors, both as our own legal advisors as well as an event sponsor. As a registered charity, we rely on the assistance of individuals, businesses and organisations to carry out our artistic mission and thank THP Solicitors for their ongoing support”.
We also currently support The Kenton Theatre, the fourth-oldest working theatre in the UK, and a registered charity. We have supported the Henley Music School when they were in desperate need of fundraising and were long-time supporters of the Henley Literary Festival.

We love sport, of all types, played at all levels, and the benefits local clubs provide in both in terms of physical exercise and the pride teams and supporters of all ages bring to their communities. We are long-time supporters of the Henley Rugby Football Club, Henley Cricket Club and Whiteknights Indoor Bowls Club.

THP Solicitors Partner, Richard Rodway, ran the Henley Living Advent Calendar event for over 10 years, helping local charities and spreading cheer throughout the month of December. In 2024, the total raised for good causes was over £10,000. Richard has been nominated at the Henley Herald’s Community Champion Awards as a result.
