What types of commercial property transactions do you deal with?
I have been a qualified solicitor for a year now, and at THP Solicitors, you are encouraged to get a broad range of experience early on in your career, which is great for me as I get to do a bit of everything!
Mainly, I advise on commercial leases for both landlords and tenants (which includes lease negotiation, alterations, and assignments), commercial property sales and purchases, and I’ve been involved in quite a bit of commercial lending, mainly in development finance. I also deal with transactions with a residential element, including lease extensions and collective enfranchisement.
Best advice you have ever received?
This was actually advice from a law firm Partner when I was a paralegal. They said, “Confidence is a doing thing.” I took that on board and realised that confidence is not just something you are born with, but the result of taking action and putting yourself outside your comfort zone. It has helped me in both my professional and personal life, and I now actively engage in challenging situations, knowing I will grow from the experience.
How do you switch off?
Being a solicitor can sometimes be quite an intense job, so it is important to give your mind a break and reset. During the week, I try to take a walk down by the river in Henley each day. There is always something to see, whether it is boats or nature, and I usually listen to a podcast while I am walking, which helps me disconnect for a while. The fresh air and exercise are also beneficial for both the body and the soul.
