THP THREE QUESTIONS: Meet Kaley Hobbs, Wills, Trusts & Estate Administration Solicitor

We believe one of the keys to giving our clients a personal service tailored to their needs is getting to know who they are. So, we’ve turned the tables by asking each member of our staff three questions, so you get to know about them.  Meet Kaley Hobbs, a Wills, Trusts & Estate Administration solicitor based in our Lower Earley, Reading office.

What is a common misunderstanding regarding inheritance?

Unfortunately, when some marriages end in divorce, a child can become estranged from one parent.

What I have found is that adults who grew up in these circumstances, who are unmarried and without children, do not realise that if they died without a Will their estate would be split between both of their parents, even if they only have a relationship with one of them.

When there is a parental estrangement, the ties with the other parent are typically strong, so the person in question would usually prefer the parent with whom they have a close familial bond to inherit everything from their estate.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

I am a ‘starter-finisher’, so for me, it is getting to the end of an estate administration and making all the final distributions to the beneficiaries. The estate administration process can be quite stressful for families and executors at an already emotional time, so it is nice to be able to provide them with closure, allowing them to move on.

What makes you happy?

Spending time with my children and my fiancé, especially if we are going headfirst down a mountain. I’ve been skiing since I was young, and it’s so lovely that my children can now join me on the slopes. They will be out skiing me in no time!
