Laura Colebrook

Solicitor – Employment Law & Dispute Resolution

Laura is experienced in advising on a wide range of legal disputes, including employment, property, debt recovery, consumer rights, and breach-of-contract claims.

Laura has specialist expertise in advising employees on Settlement Agreements (previously known as Compromise Agreements), which are contracts used by employers to end employment on agreed terms, typically involving a waiver of claims in exchange for compensation. To be binding, an employee must receive independent legal advice on the Settlement Agreement, and Laura provides this service by reviewing and negotiating severance terms (financial compensation, notice periods, confidentiality clauses, references) to ensure they are fair to the employee.

Laura is aware that any legal dispute can be stressful, so she uses her legal expertise to ensure her clients understand their legal position, negotiate effectively on their behalf to protect their interests, and present all available options so they can make informed decisions.

Her areas of expertise include:

  • Settlement Agreements (previously known as Compromise Agreements)
  • Redundancy and Severance payments
  • Consumer Claim
  • Landlord & Tenant Disputes
  • Property & Boundary Disputes
  • Contract Disputes
  • Debt Recovery & Collection
  • Inheritance Act Claims
  • Defamation

Recent Work highlights

  • Advising an employee on a Settlement Agreement, successfully negotiating enhanced termination terms and securing a significant uplift in compensation beyond the employer’s initial offer.
  • Supported a senior employee through exit negotiations, achieving improved financial terms, extended benefits, and a favourable reference provision.
  • Negotiated improved redundancy terms for an employee, including an ex gratia payment following procedural irregularities by the employer.
  • Reviewed and advised on employment contracts, restrictive covenants, and bonus disputes, helping them protect their rights.
  • Advising a commercial business in respect of defamatory comments on review websites and successfully achieving their removal.
  • Advising an Executor to an Estate on the process of revoking the Grant and protecting the Estate from an Inheritance Act claim.
  • Drafting court proceedings, obtaining judgment, and enforcing a debt recovery claim.
  • Providing assistance and ongoing advice in respect of a Forex and Bullion Trading dispute.
  • Resolving a long-standing neighbour dispute over a property boundary.

Laura has a law degree from the University of East Anglia and completed her Legal Practice Course at Anglia Ruskin University in 2011. Laura is an SRA-regulated solicitor – SRA number 530993

Prior to becoming a Solicitor, Laura was a national competitive swimmer – she was nominated as a Queen’s Baton Relay holder for the Commonwealth Games and came second to Olympic Gold medallist Rebecca Adlington at a national swimming event. Laura had to plan, persevere, and focus to succeed in her sport, and she applied these important skills to her legal career.

“I’ve had a great experience working with Laura, she’s a very skilled solicitor who is responsive and empathetic. I can’t recommend THP enough for how they handled my case, from making the initial call they were clearly invested in a successful outcome for me and transparent about costs throughout. Highly recommended!”
